Spotlight on … Bookham

This month’s Spotlight on feature, which shines a spotlight on the areas we serve by members of our team who actually live there, focuses on Bookham. And who better to provide an overview of this vibrant village than Bookham resident, former actor and Davies Property Partners’ negotiator George Caporn.

For a pint, I love going to …

We actually don’t have a usual ‘local’ – mainly because all the pubs in Bookham are great – but we most commonly frequent The Royal Oak on the high street. I’m looking forward to the renovation of The Old Crown the most though, as I hear it’s going to have a very Surrey-style gastropub vibe. Being so close to it, they’ll never get me to leave!

My favourite restaurant for brunch is …

Carolina’s. It’s a family-owned café that does delicious cakes and coffee, but which also has a genius tucked away in the kitchen who makes the perfect brunch dishes. They’re a staple of our Saturday mornings and we tend to finish with a walk at Bookham Common.

When it comes to getting out and about, I like to …

Drive into the Surrey Hills and feel like I’m in the deep countryside within 15 minutes. Ranmore Common is a particular favourite of mine. You can get lost amongst the tall redwood trees and pause to enjoy the total quiet. We also love a trip to the garden centre, either Dobbe’s or The Vineries, and we always end up taking something home with us.

Bookham’s hidden gem is …

Brackenbury’s Hardware Shop. They have everything you could ever need and even cut keys, too. I’ve made many emergency trips there to fix the botched DIY jobs that I’ve attempted. The wealth of knowledge they possess is staggering. They also have a great pet section upstairs for even the rarest of animals!

The best thing about Bookham is …

The location. Bookham itself has everything you’d ever need, but the proximity to so many other great spots is what sells it. You can drop into Cobham in 12 minutes, be on the M25 in 15 minutes and be shopping in Guildford within 20 minutes. Even getting to Box Hill for a hike only takes 15 minutes. If you’re a golfer, then Beaverbrook Golf Club is only 10 minutes away. And, of course, you can be in Central London from Bookham station in 50 minutes.

Lewis Sutehall

I’ve been with Davies Property Partners since March 2018, albeit it feels like I’ve always been here. I started my career in agency in 2007, all of which has been based in Elmbridge. My passion for property started at a young age, and I would often work in construction between school terms. I consider myself very fortunate to be working in an area with some wonderful homes. These homes are often made wonderful by the people and families living in them. Property is such an exciting industry, but is one which often comes with its stresses. Whether you’re dealing with someone’s first purchase, upsizing, downsizing or simply changing areas. Every transaction is of the greatest importance and needs the right care, skill, knowhow and above all experience. It’s a wonderful feeling to help achieve the best result for our clients or advise those buying. I feel flattered every time someone comes to me for my advice or opinion. I am always here to help!
