For a pint, I love going to …
The Bell, because it’s a rewarding uphill walk there and downhill on the way home! Despite having quite an imposing façade, it’s a friendly place to either stop in for a sundowner or settle in for a Sunday afternoon.

Fetcham Tandoori…. some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. The naans in particular are top notch.
When it comes to getting out and about, I like to …
Explore the local area. I live very close to the River Mole – as do most people that live in Fetcham. There are loads of walks in and around the area with lots of wildlife to spot. We get deer in our road, and the first time I encountered them in a wooded glade I assumed that they’d escaped from somewhere, but no, they just wander about scrabbling for snacks – meanwhile I felt like I was in a Disney film. I’ve completed the Mole Gap Trail a few times. It starts at Leatherhead train station, heads through Fetcham and up to Norbury Park, skirting Bocketts Farm, cutting through Denbies Vineyard, Westhumble, Mickleham and ending up in Dorking. It’s wonderfully scenic and there’s a lovely hidden (but very popular) coffee van in the middle of Norbury Park.
Fetcham’s hidden gem is …
I’m a very big fan of the William Dyer Delicatessen in Fetcham. They do magnificent pies, savouries, cold meats, cheeses, accompaniments and frozen meals – their Scotch Eggs are the size of a grapefruit. Next door, Greenwise is a shop specialising in world foods, fresh produce and sustainable dry goods (where you bring your own container to fill from cannisters). They also have a popular café serving food and my favourite coconut latte.
The best thing about Fetcham is …
My road! It’s a development of boxy, solid houses from the late 60s. A fair few of the residents moved in when they were new builds and their family lives have played out there. The community spirit is alive and well and everyone helps each other and keeps an eye out on the comings and goings. We have an annual summer party on the green and Christmas carolling under the streetlights followed by a knees-up every Christmas. The day we moved in one of our new neighbours came round with homemade flapjacks to introduce herself and welcome us to the neighbourhood. There’s a tennis club on our road as well as a recreation ground, playground and Girl Guide hut, so there’s a lot of comings and goings but equally you get to sit in the garden and listen to the “pop-pop” of tennis balls being volleyed.
